Very Special Members!
The Black Sheep Hand Weavers Guild is an HGA-affiliated guild located in the San Francisco Bay area. The purpose of the Blacksheep Handweavers Guild is to promote the exchange of ideas and knowledge in the textile arts, and to encourage efforts and activities in all fields of textiles. Guests are encouraged to make a $5 donation on evenings when we have outside speakers. The membership dues are determined by the guild and cover the period from September - August. Annual membership is still only $25. Members receive a copy of the newsletter, discounted or waived fees for guild-sponsored events and workshops, access to the guild library, discounted registration for CNCH, and a strong sense of community.

Black Sheep Exhibits

from Andrea Niehuis

Thanks to Rosemary Brock, Carly Carr, Carolyn Van Cise, Judy Dauberman and Andrea Niehuis who shared items for the last minute exhibt in Redwood City this month. We will be exhibiting at the Burlingame Library in September. It is a wall hanging area so we would like wall hangingis, garments that can be put on hangers, wall sculpture, towels, blankets, table cloths, or anything that can be hung. The items need to be delivered to Andrea Niehuis by Aug 27. If you need me to pick it up let Andrea know. Please tag with your item with your name and phone number. We will also be exhibiting in the Redwood City library in January of 2009.

Dues and Membership

from Jean Thompson

We welcome two new members, June Socio and Kathleen Marquardt, who both went to Stephenie Gaustad's spinning workshop in April. Sandra Rude has moved and sent her new mailing address and phone number. We hope you can still come to meetings occasionally, Sandra. Current contact information for most members is in the password protected "Members Only" section of the Guild website. If you have membership questions or if your address, phone or email changes, please contact Jean Thompson, 650-324-9344.

Our membership year is Sept 1 - Aug 31, with dues of $25 ($15 for new members joining after Mar 1). This includes the CNCH contribution. Checks should be made out to Black Sheep Handweavers Guild, and mailed to Rachel Levy, 755 Newell Road, Palo Alto, CA 94303. Rachel can also be reached by email or by phone, 650-325-0917.

Guild Library

The guild is fortunate to have a small but really very good library. As most of you know, a listing of our holdings is on the guild’s website. Of particular value are the magazines – most of the material in them is timeless. If you are looking for information on a topic or just want inspiration, this is a great source. If you need help in locating articles from “Handwoven” look at the online index available at Interweave Press. Contact the librarian, Caryl, carylc@gmail.com if there is something you would like to borrow or to just come over and browse.

Study Group for Beginning or Refreshing Weavers

The first meeting of the study group for beginning or refreshing weavers will be Saturday, June 14 from 10-12 at Andrea Niehuis's house, 2559 Woodland Place, Emerald Hills. We will be planning the topics we want to discuss for the year. If you are interested you can call Andrea at 650-366-3763 or sign up at the May Weaving Guild meeting. This group is intended to help new weavers and will cover various topics to encourage us to start new projects, learn about various types of looms, ways of warping, etc. The group will be led by Andrea and Judy Dauberman, but we encourage other experienced weavers to help out with their knowledge. Bring a notebook, your questions and ideas for future topics. See you there. Andrea

Handcraft Judging: Sun, Aug 3, at 10 am.
Fleece Auction: Sun, Aug 17, 2008, at 12:30 pm.

Our guild has a policy of not allowing the membership roster to be used for commercial uses. Any unsolicited commercial mailings, including those over the internet, will incur the collective wrath of our membership. As my mother used to say, "Do that, and I'll make your life a misery." rbrock@prosaix.com

This site is hosted by Prosaix because Rosemary made Lynn's life a misery until he agreed to do so. Think of it as a wee bit of community service.
