Black Sheep Handweavers Guild
2009-2010 Programs
July Meeting, 7/15, 7:00 pm, Project Discussions
During the summer we continue to meet but usually without outside speakers.
For July, we're going to have tables set up for people to talk about their interest.
I see a table for spinners, a table for weavers, a table for braiders, ...
Bring something to share with like-minded members of the guild.
Future Meetings
- 7/15/10: Summer program:
- 8/19/10: In June of 2008, Professor Betsy Blosser and nine students from San Francisco State University’s Broadcast and Electronic Communications Arts (BECA) Department traveled to
Guatemala to produce a video for the benefit TRAMA Textiles, a weaving co-op run by indigenous Mayan women.
TRAMA is a worker-owned women’s weaving association of more than 400 backstrap loomweavers in the western highlands of Guatemala.
It offers training to weaving cooperatives around Guatemala, enabling them to produce quality fair-trade textile goods.
TRAMA’s mission is to create work for fair wages for the women of Guatemala; to honorably support their families and communities; and to preserve and develop their cultural traditions through the maintenance of their textile arts and their histories.
The trip was part of the media and community service class, which focused on using video for social change and community service.
On August 19, Professor Blosser will present and discuss the short film at our monthly meeting.
